The challenge is a regional competition showcasing science and technology and is a collaborative effort between the Caribbean Science Foundation (CSF), SAGICOR (a regional insurance company), and the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

The point of the challenge is to encourage secondary school students to develop innovative ways to construct solutions to problems that their schools face.

The winning entry from Bishop Martin was the use and benefits found in “Chaya”, a plant which has many healing components and nutrients.

In similar fashion, last year Orange Walk District’s Bishop Martin High School took on the Sagicor Challenge with their project “Coconuts for Life.”

The team now boasts bragging rights and will be heading to compete in the United States in the coming year with other schools from around the Caribbean and the USA.
