Friday, December 5, 2014. JUAN CAAL Reporting: Primary school students in the Toledo district who will graduate next year and need financial assistance to get into High School will be able to get financial aid, thanks to an initiative of the Town Council and a private citizen.
The Punta Gorda town council, under the leadership of Mayor Anthony Fuentes, is partnering with a team of United States missionaries to extend the financial assistance program to those in need.
According to Mayor Fuentes, Dangriga resident Dorothy Owens, who now resides in the United States, came up with the initiative after meeting with the Mayor.
Each students who want to take advantage of the financial assistance initiative can now pick up an application form at the offices of the Punta Gorda Town Council.
The completed forms will be reviewed by a team, headed by Ms. Owens and those who meet all the criteria will be selected for one of the scholarships.
