Tuesday, December 16, 2014. GWEN NUNEZ GONZALEZ Reporting: Gulisi Community Primary School Dancers are the Back to Back Champions for the Annual Habinahan Wanaragua Junior Competition.
This Annual Competition is organized by the Habinahan Wanaragua Committee in an effort bring dignity to the skillful Dance of Wanaragua.
The exciting competition was started 4 years ago because the coordinators say the deterioration of the dance since some of the dancers were adding vulgarity to the creative dance.
The event was held on Sunday, December 12th, at the Ecumenical Auditorium at 2:30 pm.
The different camps were judged on their entrance, dancing, and other skills that are unique to the Wanaragua dancing.
Six camps participated this year: Sacred Heart Primary, Gulisi Community Primary, Lir Ugundani, St. Alphonsus Primary, Christ the King Anglican School, and Epworth Methodist Primary.
At the end of the tightly contested event Gulisi Community Primary School received the first place trophy titled “Banquata Weiyei Max Garcia”, which was given in honour of one of the great Wanaragua Dancers Mr. Max Garcia along with cash prize.
Second place went to Sacred Heart Primary Camp and Third was St. Alphonsus Primary Camp.
The senior competition will be held on Sunday, December 28th, 2014 at Ecumenical College.
