Mr Leslie I wish to comment on your series on “structural violence”. I encourage you to continue to explore and write on the causes and consequences. Please continue to go some layers deeper into the causes of the issues. For example, looking at the causes of death listing, how many of those listings are caused by alcoholism, —by actions and ways of thinking and living where excess alcohol consumption leads to negative consequences for the drinker and those around the drinker. For example, while the cause of death is listed as traffic accidents, in reality most of the deadly accidents are a result of driving while drunk. and the diabetes is mostly type 2, adult onset diabetes which is a direct consequence of over consumption of alcohol. the cultural acceptance of excess alcohol consumption, is an issue of physical & mental health, & economic importance. In the majority of cases of personal physical violence the perpetrators are usually intoxicated. How much of the HIV is due to unprotected sex, decisions made while intoxicated? Thank you for bringing your thoughts forward.
