Wednesday, March 4, 2015. JUAN CAAL Reporting: Voters in Punta Gorda town continue to come out slowly to cast their ballots on today’s Municipal elections.
According to the Election and Boundaries Department statistics, as of 3 pm, a total of 1,312 persons have voted so far.
That is 36% of the 3.601 registered voters who are eligible to cast a ballot in today’s poll.
This morning the Mayoral Candidate for the People’s National Party Wil Maheia complained that he witnessed vote-buying.
But that claim by Maheia was quickly dispelled by the United Democratic Party’s Mayoral Candidate Fern Gutierrez. She says that the claim has no basis in fact and attributes it to an unprepared candidate sensing defeat.
Incumbent Mayor Anthony Fuentes says that he if confident of a return to office when the votes are all counted.
The polls close at 6 o’clock this evening, after which the counting will begin.
