Wednesday, March 25, 2015. BMG: The Belize Jaguars, our national football team, played to a scoreless draw with the Cayman Islands national team tonight in the first game of World Cup 2018 Qualifying Tournament.
The game was played at the Football Federation of Belize (FFB) stadium in Belmopan.
Belize missed a scoring opportunity in the opening moments of the game when a penalty shot was successfully defended by the goal keeper for the Cayman Islands, which is ranked 205 out of 209 in the world.
Throughout the course of the game, there were many other scoring opportunities by the Jaguars but none of them could be converted.
The Cayman Islands national team’s last international match was in 2011, while for Belize, our last international game was in 2014 in the Gold Cup.
The Cayman Islands team has no professional players, while the Jaguars boasts two professional players on its roster.
The second game against the Cayman Islands will be played at the Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Grand Cayman on Sunday night, March 29.
