To localize this observation to Belize: Last week, our Government gave themselves permission to borrow as much money as they please, using every single Belizean as collateral – they did this retroactively as well – yet, there was more outrage about the public faux pas of Mr. Terry Gordon during this year’s Bandfest, than there were of Government giving themselves a blank check, and drawing that check on all of our accounts.
This is not a bad thing or a good thing. It is just causality. We can lock on, emotionally, to the faux pas of Mr. Gordon, a lot faster and easier, than we can lock on to the precariousness of the Petrocaribe Bill 2015, for the emotional effects of this bill will take years to realize, and it will be realized via incremental gradualism.
It is the same psychological phenomena that we see today with all the social ills we are witnessing and experiencing, however most Belizeans cannot quantify all the variable factors from 5, 10, 15, 20… years ago, that accumulated to cause the effects that we see today in the general social decay of our society.
What accumulated you would ask? In modern society, government policies are usually the main observable and quantifiable factors that affect society.
In conclusion, I recommend that each Belizean start to utilized desirable difficulties in understand the decisions our Government is making – analyze on whatever level you can, the facts. Need not pay attention to the fleshlings that occupy our House of Representatives, pay attention to their decisions, the policies they lobby for and push into law, that is where the cause-and-effect of our society lies.
