Tuesday, April 28th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: 38 year old Haitian national David Modeste, who arrived in Belize today via Phillip Goldson International Airport with Belizean residency permit which he said he bought online, was fined $1,000 by Magistrate Ladonna John after he pleaded guilty to attempting to use a permit not being issued by lawful authority.
He was ordered to pay forthwith and was unable to pay so he was taken to Belize Central Prison to serve 6 months. An order has been granted for his deportation to Haiti after he has served the time.
About 9:30 this morning two immigration officers went to Queen Street Police Station where Modeste was handed over to them. When the immigration officers checked with the Belmopan headquarters of the Immigration Department they discovered that no such permit was issued any of the immigration offices in and outside of Belize.
As a result, Modeste was arrested and charged.
