Tuesday, April 28th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Gang rivalry turned violent, or attempted burglary? Andre Alvarez, a construction worker of Police Street, is accused of attempting to break into the Linda Vista residence of Steven Swasey, only to be met by the homeowner with a machete in hand.
According to Swasey, he met Alvarez coming into his home, carrying a firearm, and proceeded to chop him in both arms, the first blow causing him to drop the weapon and put his hands up to defend himself whereupon he was chopped several more times.
Alvarez, appearing in court with both hands heavily bandaged, told Magistrate Herbert Panton that he is involved in a gang rivalry and claimed that he was lured to the house by a woman. The Magistrate suggested that it could just as easily be case of a man defending his property.
Alvarez pleaded not guilty and was remanded into custody until June 17.
