Wednesday, May6th, 2015. BMG: The seventh meeting of the regional grouping took place in Quito, Ecuador this week where Foreign Affairs Ministers from Latin American and the Caribbean States met to discuss proposals for the region to develop a Cooperation Agenda 2020.
Coming out of Tuesday’s meeting were areas identified for cooperation; among them are the reduction of poverty and inequality, education, science and climate change. Further analysis and discussion of the initial proposal will now be carried out among member states leading to a potential finalization on the way forward.
Foreign Minister of Ecuador Ricardo Patiño told the press that the 2020 Agenda will be finalized in the next two to three months following further consultations with member states.
Belize was represented at this week’s meeting by Minister Wilfred Elrington, Chief Executive Officer in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lawrence Sylvester and Ambassador Alexis Rosado.
