According to our sources, the taxi driver picked up the two Guatemalans in down town San Ignacio who asked him to drop them off at the San Ignacio Community Hospital on Bullet Tree Road.
While he was driving them to the hospital, one of the Guatemalans pointed a gun at him and asked to stop the vehicle. Because the taxi driver refused to stop, he was knocked on the head with the gun and then beaten by the two men who drove off in the taxi to Bullet Tree Village.
Residents in the Santiago Juan Layout area in San Ignacio Town told Belize Media Group that they heard about the incident last week and they believe that the men drove the taxi to Melchor, Guatemala through the dirt road that is used by smugglers behind Bullet Tree Falls Village.
Belize Media Group contacted the taxi driver just now and he told us that the incident did happen and to not release his name as he fears that if he makes a police report, the Guatemalans will return to hurt him.
Police are yet to issue an official statement on this kidnapping.
