BREAKING NEWS: Shooting at BSI Cane Fields

Monday, May 18th, 2015. BMG: Belize Media Group has received reports that a shooting incident occurred this evening between ASR BSI Security Guards and occupants of a blue Mazda pickup truck in Orange Walk Town. asr 3

According to reports, the ASR BSI security guards were watching over the BSI cane fields when they noticed that a fire arose in one of the cane fields and shortly after, a suspicious Mazda pickup truck was seen circling the area.

Upon pursuit of the vehicle, the occupants of the Mazda pickup fired shots at the BSI Security guards at which point the police joined in the chase and chased down the vehicle forcing it to stop on the Yo Creek Road.ASR

Police have since detained the occupants in the Mazda pickup and are being held at the Orange Walk Police Station.

  UPDATE at 5:15 a.m.

We have learned that the blue Mazda pickup truck belongs to PUP politician Ramon Monchie Cervantez and was driven by two men, one who is Efrain Alpuche, the personal security guard of Mr. Cervantes.

The two men are being detained pending investigation of arson and other charges. We will have more on this story as more information becomes available.
