Thursday, June 4th, 2015: BMG: Since 2011, technicians at ICT Pulse have been tracking fixed internet broadband speeds and pricing across the Caribbean, updating findings and highlighting some of the changes that have occurred since their last assessment in 2014.
Just as last year, 19 Caribbean countries, including Belize were a part of this year’s exercise and data was collected from websites of widely used Internet Service Providers from each country to identify four areas:
The review focused on the monthly rates payable for the specified internet plans only, excluding subscription and activation fees as well as any additional monthly charges that might have been applicable.
This survey showed that Aruba, Belize and Guyana are the only three countries out of the 19 that are still offering plans with download speeds of 256 kilo-bits per second and Belize has the highest price for a 2Mbps plan at US $69.49, while Trinidad and Tobago recorded the lowest price for that speed at U.S $22.15.
This survey revealed that Belize has some of the highest priced internet plans in the Caribbean but it also showed that our prices have decreased since May of 2014 when the last survey was conducted.
Overall, when this year’s results were compared to that of 2014, the average price for a 2Mbps internet plan across all 19 countries, dropped by U.S $14.04, indicating that internet prices are indeed decreasing in the Caribbean.
