santa cruz guatemalaSunday, June 14th 2015. BMG: Reports reaching our newsroom are that 5 Belizean men including a Coucilor in the Punta Gorda Town Council were detained in Santa Cruz, Guatemala yesterday evening.

Santa Cruz is a Guatemalan village that borders Jalacate in southern Belize, and according to reports, the men were drunk and disorderly and were involved in some sort of altercation. The men also had no travel documents with them.

It is interesting to note that villagers of Jalacte in Belize visit Santa Cruz, Guatemala by foot or horseback to access cheaper goods because they don’t have to pay taxes.

We will be updating this story as more information becomes available.
