Monday, June 15th, 2015. BMG: Belize’s National Youth Cadet Corp, an organization which falls under Department of Youth Services, teaches troubled young men between the ages of 13 to 17 years old, good work ethics and values.
On Thursday, June 11th, the Corp’s 16th intake of cadets graduated from the program after 10 months of training, and like many of their predecessors, a large number of these young men will go on to join the local or foreign military since they have gotten accustomed to that type of discipline in the Cadet Corp.
Herman Longsworth, Minister responsible for Youth and Sports, was present at the graduation ceremony and said: “Today our cadets have completed 10 months of personal development and are being recognized for their commitment and willingness to embrace positive change. Having received the academic, vocational and life skills need to transition into secondary schools and more advanced vocational programs, you graduates are encouraged to remain on this positive path.
The National Youth Cadet Development Corp is an effective intervention program that has successfully merged all the correct entities, which has resulted in a positive maturation we see in these young men graduating from the program. I am a bit disappointed that there are not as many parents here as we would have hoped and I want to take this time to congratulate those of you who are here, because without your support, there is no way that your children can do the right thing”.
