Tuesday, June 16th, 2015.  By Delroy Cuthkelvin: National unity is a thing we all preach from time to time; but it’s easier proclaimed than achieved. If there’s one cause around which Belizeans are coming together these days it is that of our National Football Selection and the pursuance of their dream to take Belize to the World Cup. It might not happen in 2018, but we have certainly made major strides towards it, having earned a spot for the first time in the Third Round of World Cup Qualifiers.

Our boys have truly made us proud, and to them we must return the honor. The massive turnout at the games at a ticket price of BZE$50.00 last Sunday is proof positive of the inestimable love, appreciation and commitment by Belizeans to our National Football Team. It’s a commitment that is certainly reflected by our Government led by Prime Minister Dean Barrow who, when called upon in 2013, answered the call and took the lead in contributing funds to ensure our National Team’s participation in the Gold Cup, a gesture that was commendably matched, if not surpassed, by Belizeans at large.

That kind of commitment will certainly be needed once again to ensure our boys can continue to pursue their dreams and the nation’s aspirations into the next round of World Cup Qualifiers. With the unprecedented performance by our footballers on behalf of the Nation, nothing less could be required of the Nation. In the words of Jamaican Singer Luciano, “We’re all in this thing together.”

Now, let’s put our monies where our mouths are, and let the Jaguars continue to put the ball into the net!
