Thursday, June 18th, 2015. BMG: Three members of the BDF football team have been accused of match-fixing. These grim allegations were made by BDF coach and current Jaguars Assistant coach, Charles Slusher, after the BDF/Verdes game on 29th April, 2015, where Verdes emerged victorious by a score of six to nil.
Slusher forwarded a letter to the FFB on April 30th, requesting that the Federation investigate the matter, stating, “I suspect and believe that there were some players of the BDF Football Club who were directly involved in match-fixing during the game.
I can only suspect that some other players were involved, but specifically these three players stand out because of their actions before, during and after the game.” FFB President, Ruperto Vicente, assures that the matter is being considered carefully by both the Federation and CONCACAF.
An allegation of this caliber could have serious implications, putting players, clubs and officials at risk of suspension. For this reason, the investigation cannot be carried out by the Football Federation of Belize.
In order to investigate fully and impartially, CONCACAF has appointed Integrity Officer, Elmer Torres, to conduct the investigations. Until the matter is resolved, no action can be taken against any of the persons involved and/or accused.
However, governing bodies CONCACAF and the FFB assure that the matter is of utmost importance. Torres is expected to report directly to CONCACAF and UNCAF, who will make further recommendations on the matter.
