Preparations begin for Belize International Film Festival

Posted: Saturday, June 20, 2015. 9:54 am CST.

Saturday, June 20th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The 10th annual Belize International Film Festival to be held in the seaside resort destination of Placencia is now a month away and the media blitz has begun. Filmmakers from 38 countries submitted entries to this year’s event and selections have been made. suzette

We spoke today to festival coordinator and Media Arts Director for NICH, Suzette Zayden, who said that the over 100 submissions presented had been whittled down to 50 for the two days of the festival. While the feature films to be shown are mostly in the international domain, Belize does have a presence in the short film and music video categories, the latter of which is exclusive to Belizeans.

Zayden says the films are as varied in origin and subject matter as they are colorful and recognizable – from a locally produced telenovela to environmental issues to animation. All share better technical production quality.

The event will be held from July 17 to 19 at the Belize Ocean Club in Placencia and the final closing ceremony and award show will be carried on local television station Channel 5.
