Tuesday, June 23, 2015. BMG: Since Belize Jaguars’ goal keeper, Woodrow West signed a contract to play with Honduras’ El Progresso football club last week, our star striker, Deon McCauley has also met with the Honduran talent scouts.
McCauley, after consistently performing well for Belize, has gained vast international recognition and with El Progresso being the first team to offer him a deal, he sat down with its representative on Friday to hash out the details of a contract.
In an interview with the media after his meeting with El Progress, Deon said that it was a nice opportunity but he told the manager of the team that he was already playing for 5 years in Honduras and there has been no real change in the country’s football operations. Deon went on to tell the El Progresso crew that it is impossible to go to another country and get a player with 20 international goals for the small amount of money that he was being offered.
Deon acknowledged that playing for El Progresso was a good opportunity but he said that at this point in his career he wants to see better, he wants to get to another level and wants to be comfortable because he has to think about his future and retirement goals. “I want to be on a team where I can save and uplift myself. I’m not saying that it’s not a good opportunity. I’m waiting and hoping that someone out there will see my talent and help me to reach somewhere further,” Deon said.
