Monday June 29th 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The National Cycling Championships of Belize, hosted by the Cycling Federation of Belize (BCF) took place over the weekend, with winners selected in men’s and women’s time trial and road race.
The time trial winner and overall national champion is Giovanni Lovell of Team Telemedia; he is also the U-23 top performer. Elite level winner of the road race was Ron Vasquez of Team Western Spirit. The road race took place over 94 miles starting and ending at Garbutt’s Puma service station in Roaring Creek, Cayo District, just outside Belmopan.
Yan Cattouse is junior division winner, while Shalini Zabaneh is the women’s champion.
Winners of these races are designated national champions and wear a “national” jersey in all races over the next 12 months recognizing their achievement, including in Belize’s case the Holy Saturday Cross Country Cycling Classic. They will also represent the country in international events.
