Belmopan Police make huge firearm and ammunition bust

Wednesday, July 01, 2015. BMG: Two men are today in Belmopan police custody pending charges for possession of a prohibited firearm. 9. CRIME

According to police report, a little before 6pm they intercepted a green passenger bus en route to Belize City between miles 31 and 32 on the George Price Highway where a search was conducted.

Inside the bus, law-enforcers discovered a black bag which contained an AK-47 rifle bearing S/N 223580 along with 2 magazines, 25, 7.62 live rounds, 52, 9 mm live rounds, 10 .38 live rounds and 19 .45 caliber live rounds of ammunition.

Police subsequently arrested 25-year-old Ruben Avalos Martinez of Alta Vista Village, and 23-year-old Guillermo Enrique Salazar of San Mateo area, San Pedro Town pending charges for possession of a prohibited firearm.
