Minister of State accused of manipulating Petrocaribe-financed road construction

Saturday, July 18th, 2015. BMG: First-term area representative for Corozal North and Minister of State in the Ministry of Natural Resources and Agriculture, Hon. Hugo Patt, hugo patthas been accused of manipulating the pavement of a quarter mile of road in the village of Patchakan that runs past the football field and water board office, but is said to lead directly to his doorsteps.

PUP opponent David Castillo told CTV-3 News that he questions how the Minister managed to get the pavement to run into his yard and past his brother’s house on the same street.

He says that not only is the division not getting its fair share of the funds, there has been no explanation of why this particular road was chosen, as there are, in Castillo’s view, more important roads to make trafficable with taxpayers’ monies.

In a telephone interview, Patt maintained that the road was public, not exclusively for his use, and that the paving was necessary for better access for the village’s youths with whom he says he works well to promote sports.

According to CTV, however, Patt saw no need to disclose any information about what, if anything, happened inside his private property as that is private to him.
