Thursday, July 23, 2015. BMG: Was the firearm recovered in Belize City yesterday, stolen from the Police arsenal? 7 News reports that an unreported theft of a .38 caliber revolver took place in April and the weapon was recovered on Wednesday afternoon on Zericote Street after a 16 year old minor allegedly tossed it away while fleeing from police.
Police intercepted a Toyota Camry on Central American Boulevard around 12:15 pm Wednesday – but when they stopped it, a 16 year old minor dashed out.
Police chased and saw him fling an object over a fence which turned out to be the revolver. While the weapon is alleged to have been stolen from the police station in Punta Gorda, it was not reported to the media – neither was it included in today’s police report.
Police are said to have searched the car presumably because persons with known gang ties were inside – but only the minor has been charged because the weapon was not found in the car, he fled with it.
