These flights are scheduled to begin on December 8, 2015, with the first plane departing on its 2 hour and 20 minute journey, to Tocumen International Airport in Panama City, at 2:17 p.m.
Two weekly flights will leave and return to Belize on Tuesdays and Fridays. Flights from Belize to Hub de las Americas, Panama, will leave at 2:17 p.m on both days, arriving in Panama at 5:34 p.m. Return flights will leave Panama at 11:29 a.m and arrive in Belize City at 12:52 p.m.
Copa boasts a modern and comfortable aircraft for these direct flights to Belize, the Embraer 190, which has a capacity of 94 passengers including 10 in executive class.
These flights will give Belizeans easier access to the Caribbean and Latin America, as passengers in transit won’t even need to pass through immigration.
Minister of Tourism, Culture and Civil Aviation, Hon. Manuel Heredia Jr., says that this partnership with COPA could not have come at a more opportune time to break the accessibility barrier to Belize and improve the percentage of overnight tourist arrivals to the country, which is currently at 5%.
