Tourism Pioneer honored at BTB Award Ceremony for 50 years of dedication to the industry

Monday, August 3rd, 2015. BMG: The 13th Annual BTB Tourism Award Ceremony was held in San Pedro on Saturday, August 1stBTB awardee, and one very special tourism pioneer was honoured for her 50 years of dedication to the industry.

Mrs. Celi Nunez McCorkle received an award in commemoration of her hotel, Holiday Hotel, being the first one to open on Ambergris Caye and has been operational for 50 years on.

Her hotel made it possible for the Caye to cater for overnight tourists and ultimately had a huge part in making San Pedro the number one tourist destination in Belize.

Mrs. McCorkle’s 50 years of passion and hard work could not go unnoticed as she has been vital to the booming of the tourism industry, not only in San Pedro, but the entire country.

After accepting her award on Saturday, the only thing Mrs. McCorkle had to say was that she wish she had 50 more years to continue doing what she loves.
