Arson may be cause of Carmelita house fire

Monday, August 10^th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Fire officials in Orange Walk say they are not ruling out Arson as the cause of a fire that completely destroyed a home in Carmelita Village on Sunday night.

According to authorities, they received a call of a fire around 8:25 and quickly responded to the scene. Upon arrival, officials noted the home completely engulfed and started to extinguish the blaze in the hope of containing it to the structure.

The wooden home with zinc roofing measured 20ft by 40ft was completely destroyed. Officials say its contents and the home were not insured.

An estimated loss of 22 thousand is reported. Fire officials say the home did not have electricity and at the time of the blaze, its occupants were not present.

The property is one belonging to Zammir Escalante. Meanwhile, officials continue to investigate the cause.
