Child killed in accident on Hummingbird

Monday, August 17th, 2015. BMG: A traffic accident between miles 50 and 51 on the Hummingbird Highway yesterday evening, August 16, resulted in one fatality and nine people needing medical attention.fta new

Belmopan Police arrived on the scene around 5:37 p.m. where they saw an overturned grey Mitsubishi Endeavor SUV and a female child identified as Ariani Rodriguez, lying face down on the left hand side of the highway, apparently dead.

It was determined that the driver of the vehicle, 25 year old Belmopan resident Marvin Zuniga, was driving towards Belmopan from Armenia village when he lost control and overturned.

Inside the vehicle were 10 passengers, who all received varying injuries, namely: 32 year old Claudia O’Brien, 12 year old Lizeth Martinez, Amir Rodriguez, 9 year old Gabriel Martinez, Stephanie Rodriguez, 14 year old Manuel Martinez, Graciela Martinez, Leonela Rodriguez, 15-year-old Tirelly Martinez and Ariani Rodriguez.

All occupants of the vehicle were taken to the Western Regional Hospital, after which Lizeth Martinez, Amir Rodriguez, Gabriel Martinez and Stephanie Rodriguez were transported to the K.H.M.H for further treatment.

Ariani Rodriguez was the only fatality, as she was pronounced dead at 7:26 p.m. Police investigation continues.
