Earlier, we told you about several female bar workers who were detained after Immigration Officials carried out a raid, sweeping across popular entertainment establishment and bars in Orange Walk Town.
A total of 26 women from Honduras, Guatemala and Belize were detained pending investigation into their involvement in a human trafficking ring. While the detention period is set at 48 hours, 11 of those detained endured over 66 hours of jail time. At around 4:15pm yesterday evening, 11 Hondurans were release with no charge.
They were transported to the Benque Viejo Border under the basis that they had overstayed their time in the country and were deported back to their country. At 7:30pm last night, immigration officials, arrived at the Orange Walk Police station to instruct officers to release 3 Belizeans who were also detained, without charge.
It is uncertain about the fate of the other 12 women that are under investigation and under arrest. More on this story as it develops.
