Belize Bank contributing to Sports Development

Saturday, September 4, 2015. BMG: The Belize Bank Ltd. continued its commitment to the development of sports in Belize. Over the past week, over $17,000 was donated to support sporting initiatives. Belize Bank Contributing to Sport Development-1(1)

The investment does not only keep the players occupied and focused, but also encourages others to get involved with sports. It improves nationalism and pride with the athletes and their followers, exposes the kids to other cultures and countries, plus all the other positive effects of sport participation.

Chairlady of Placencia Village, Isla Villanueva, was on hand to receive a check for $10,000 which was used for the basketball court. The Placencia basketball court, the only one in the village, was adopted over 5 years ago by the Belize Bank.

The court is being utilized daily by athletes and also host a number of tournaments. The Belize Bank decided to renovate the entire court, along with the backboards, rims and bathroom. While the players will benefit from this generous donation, the overall social benefits and impact to the community is of even greater significance and serves as an encouragement for other young people to get involved with sports.

In another show of support, Mr. Allan Sharp President of the Belize Volleyball Association was on hand to receive a Belize Bank Contributing to Sport Development-1check for $7,000 which will be used towards the National teams (U-16 female, U-17 male and U-21 male). This donation will cover their travel expense, uniforms and registration. Mr. Sharp, commented, ‘We hope to be able to continue to develop a relationship with Belize Bank, a leading business in sports program sponsorship, knowing the benefits of sports to youth and the community’.

The Association has a long standing relationship with several programs and tournaments, some over 20 years old, and is at the forefront of Belize’s social development.
