GOB signs contract for road upgrades

Tuesday, September 15^th, 2015. BMG: A contract for $16,446,519.58 was signed today by A&N Construction Ltd. from Cayo, which is tasked with the duty of rehabilitating the 54 mile long Hummingbird Highway.

The highway has been divided into four segments and today’s contract signing focused on two of those four, namely: Belmopan roundabout junction to Sibun Bridge and Alta Vista Bridge to Dangriga Town.

Financed through the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development and the OPEC Fund, this multi-million dollar project will see improvement to the road pavement, the vertical and horizontal alignments, replacement of single lane bridges, introduction of paved road shoulders, high visibility line marking, reflective road studs, bus lay-bys and other road furniture.

The works are expected to commence immediately and after completion, the Hummingbird highway will be safer for Belizeans, as well as raised to internationally recognized standards.
