Friday, September 18th, 2015. BMG: One Cuban National is at large after he escaped from police officers, leaving his four companions behind to be arraigned in court and put in the Belize Central Prison.
The five men’s original destination was the United States but they landed in Belizean waters after their boat got wrecked and were rescued by another boat that brought them to shore, only to walk into the hands of waiting police officers.
Two of the men ran for freedom and one of them, Pedro Lion, was caught by police while the other managed to make good his escape and is being sought to face the fate that his other four partners will face.
The four Cubans in police custody, Alexei Rodriguez Garcia, Alexander Alvarez Romero, Luis Miguel Torres and Pedro Lion, were arraigned before Magistrate Deborah Rogers yesterday, deemed to be prohibited immigrants and remanded at the central prison until arrangements can be made by the Immigration Department and the Cuba Embassy for them to be extradited.
