Monday, October 5, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: A young mother and police officer is dead and her loved ones are asking a lot of questions. 24 year old Shanique Roca Terry died Saturday morning after four after being hospitalized at the KHMH for complications following the birth of her first and now only child in June.
Terry was a member of the Belize Police Department for the past 2 years and mother to a 3 month old baby boy, who she hardly saw due to her being ill.
Terry had only recently been transferred from the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk where she was being treated for cardiac and respiratory malfunctions. We were first made aware of Terry’s case when a frantic family member called us to say that KHMH wanted to transfer the patient back to Orange Walk because she was improving. The family objected and ultimately the transfer wasn’t made – she remained hospitalized in Belize City until the time of her death.
We spoke to a family member who told us that initially doctors had prescribed medications that conflicted when taken together, back when Terry was hospitalized with fluid in her lungs. That had made an already bad situation worse and landed Terry back in the hospital, fighting for her life. But Terry was informed a few days ago that she was improving and that she would be transferred back to the Northern Regional Hospital in Orange Walk. We will keep following this story.
