PUP unveil health policy

Thursday, October 8th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: The PUP has unveiled its health policy which addresses health as a holistic goal for all Belizeans.pup logo

PUP Leader Francis Fonseca stated, “Fundamental to healthy livings for all Belizeans are the basic programmes of development that are central to the plan of action of the next PUP government. Good paying jobs, equitable distribution of house lots and farm.

Safe neighborhoods, clean drinking water. Nutritious school lunches for our children, access to quality education, decent housing, sports and recreational facilities and an efficient and reliable public transportation system.”

PUP candidate for Pickstock Dr. Francis Smith argues that Government should stay out of directly managing and making decision in the health system. Government, he says, should not be financing the hospitals, allowing political appointees to own health concerns.

The system should be reformed to separate purchasing, financing, regulatory functions. He describes the PUP plan as basic, focusing on key issues as medicine, addressing prevention of diseases and training health staff.

Dr. Lesbia Guerra Cocom, PUP candidate for Cayo West, concedes that the task is immense but not beyond them.

The party promises to have digital copies of this health policy up on its web site and social media pages.
