Friday, October 9, 2015.  BMG: International football icon and arguably the best player in the world, Leonel Messi, who currently plays for the Barcelona Football Club, is in the midst of shocking allegations involving tax evasion in Belize and is set to stand trial in Spain along with his father. Messi

This comes after it was reported that Messi and his father have been evading taxes by creating fake companies in Belize and Uruguay, which they have managed to do discretely for years. Now the pair face three counts of tax fraud that are being levied against them for US$4,690,000.00 that they hid from the government of Spain.

The latest allegations put another blemish on Belize’s financial sector, which is already considered to be a tax haven. It remains to be seen how the scandal will affect the sector.
