Sunday, October 11, 2015.  BMG:  Police are seeking a man from Santiago Juan Layout in San Ignacio town pending charges for rape which resulted in pregnancy for a 15 year old girl. police-investigation-2-300x225

According to police, the minor, a Guatemalan, reported that approximately seven months ago around March 7, 2015, she was at home alone when a male family friend well-known to her arrived. After a conversation, they went into her room and he allegedly pushed her on the bed, took off her clothing, and he then raped her.

According to the minor, she began to worry when she did not see her menstrual cycle for the month of April. She told her mother what happened and her mother bought an instant pregnancy test which returned a positive result.

The child’s parents spoke to the accused, who said he accepted full responsibility and promised to take care of her if they did not report the matter to police. The family agreed as they are Evangelical Christians and did not want any problems. However, police say that the man visited the teenager on October 2, 2015 and gave her BZ$200 and told her to stop bothering him.

The minor and her family subsequently made a complaint and a medical examination confirmed that the minor is 30 weeks or seven months and two weeks pregnant.
