Tuesday, October 13, 2015. Chrisbert Garcia Reporting: On Sunday night in Punta Gorda Town, the highly anticipated United Democratic Party’s pre-election rally took place at the town’s Central Park where thousands gathered to show support for standard bearers Peter Eden Martinez for Toledo East, and Juan Coy for the Toledo West Constituencies.
Guests of honor graced the stage with words of encouragement and confidence, some even dancing in celebration of what they are predicting to be the first ever UDP Administration to serve three consecutive terms. Respected members of the UDP such as Hon. Anthony Boots Martinez, Hon. John Saldivar, Hon. Frank “Papa” Mena and Mayor Fern Guttierez of Punta Gorda addressed the massive crowd, as well as the men they came to support — Mr. Peter Eden Martinez and Mr. Juan Coy who were well received by enthusiastic UDP supporters.
The main event though, was an address given by Prime Minister Dean Oliver Barrow who danced his way to the podium along with Hon. Anthony Boots Martinez who had been doing his famous dance moves all night. In his speech, the PM assured supporters that this election has already been won by the UDP which will surely serve a third consecutive term in office. The Prime Minister went on to encourage all voters of the Toledo District to reinstate Mr. Martinez and Mr. Coy into parliament and to jump on the train that is leaving the station.
After generating continuous cheers and blowing of horns from the crowd that was a sea of red, PM Barrow thanked everyone for coming out to support the United Democratic Party.
The Prime Minister was then escorted off the stage along with the other special guests and then Sweet Pain Band took over the stage along with DJ Alfrain Supaul as the crowd, which had traveled from the surrounding villages of Punta Gorda slowly dispersed, leaving the Punta Gorda residents to enjoy the entertainment.
The event was hosted by DJ Dalla from Belize City and featured a host of raffles including $1000 in cash prize.
An official count of the crowd was not done but it is estimated to have been more than 3,000 supporters.
