BMG understands that around 6:15 Saturday evening authorities responded to the scene on the San Antonio Road two miles out of Punta Gorda Town, where they came upon Ramirez’s lifeless body on the right side of the road facing Punta Gorda, his bicycle lying broken in two nearby.
Reports say that Ramirez, also known as “Katanga”, was hit by a gray Toyota 4-Runner being driven by American national Steven Zitzer, who is from Calla Creek, Cayo District. Zitzer and his wife were driving to Punta Gorda at the time. Their vehicle sustained damage to its lower right end due to the collision.
Area residents say that Ramirez came to the village 25 years ago from his native Dangriga and became well-known. He recently moved to nearby Forest Home, Toledo District. Police investigations continue.
