Monday, October 26, 2015. BMG: It has been determined by the World Health Organization’s (WHO) cancer agency that processed meats such as hot dogs, bacon, cold cuts and others, are as hazardous to health as smoking or inhaling asbestos.
These meats raise the risk of colon, stomach and other cancers and red meat is assumed to contribute to disease as well, according to WHO’s 22 scientists that have been analysing decades of research and evaluated more than 800 studies from around the world on meat and cancer.
The meat industry protested the classification, arguing that cancer isn’t caused by a specific food but also involves lifestyle and environmental factors.
