Alleged Human Trafficker Charged

Human TraffickingThursday, November 26th, 2015. Aaron Humes Reporting: Guatemalan bar owner of Orange Walk, 33 year old Rosa Garcia, has been charged with trafficking in persons offences under the trafficking in persons act.

She has been accused of sexual exploitation and forced labour for allegedly holding two Guatemalan women, a mother and daughter, captive, and forcing the younger woman to twice have sex with bar patrons against her will.

The accuser told police that she was threatened with the death of her children in Guatemala, and she and her mother were locked up in the bar during the day and not paid for their work.

Garcia is also accused of illegally being in Belize by the Immigration Department. She was remanded to jail until January 27.
