Sarstoon Forward Operating Base to begin construction in December

Friday, November 27, 2015.  Aaron Humes Reporting: Minister of National Security John Saldivar announced during today’s graduation of new Coast Guard recruits in Ladyville that as part of Sarstoon-Island-Google-Ea-500x250the Coast Guard’s strategic plan, groundbreaking will begin on the Forward Operating Base for the joint uniformed services of Belize at the Sarstoon River in two weeks’ time, on December 9, 2015.

Over the next five years there will be construction of multiple bases and headquarters for the Coast Guard and a more than doubling of personnel for the youngest of the uniformed services to 700 from its current strength of 320.

The Coast Guard is also marking its tenth anniversary of formation. We will have more on the Coast Guard’s plans and today’s graduation in a subsequent story.
