Prime Minister speaks on Schnitzer case

Posted: Tuesday, December 1, 2015. 6:21 pm CST.

Tuesday, December 1st, 2015. BMG: After international fugitive David Nanes Schnitzer, accused of scamming over US $42,000,000 from Mexican investors, was captured in Belize with the help of US Marshalls, PM smilingfound with fraudulent Belizean documents, taken to court, given bail and fled the country, Prime Minister Barrow in an interview yesterday said that an investigation is underway to bring forth the corrupt persons involved in getting Schnitzer almost every Belizean document available, including citizenship, a passport, driver’s license and boat captain license among others.

PM Barrow said that the situation has left him very distraught and noted that there is certainly a level of collusion not only on the part of civil servants but public servants on a whole, which includes ministers.

He added that the reason for not simply handing Schnitzer over to Mexican authorities, was because of our government’s determination to follow the law, which states that since Schnitzer’s Belizean Nationality was revoked, it had to be published in the Gazette and serve notice to him.

Barrow said that was what caused time to elapse, permitting Schnitzer to go before the court and get bail from the judge.
