Brian Davis of Sandhill sentenced for firearm

Posted: Wednesday, December 30, 2015. 7:28 pm CST.

Aaron Humes: Twenty-six year old Brian Davis, a laborer of Sandhill, was sentenced to 10 years today by Senior Magistrate Sharon Fraser after he pled guilty to kept firearm and ammunition without a gun license. 9. CRIME

Davis was sentenced to 5 years each for the firearm and the ammunition. But Senior Magistrate Fraser stipulated that the sentences are to run concurrently, so Davis will only serve 5 years. Davis’ common-law wife, 23 year old Luise Meneses, was charged jointly with him but the charges against her were withdrawn after his guilty plea was accepted.

Around 7:50 this morning police officers went to Davis’ residence, located at mile 19 and a half on Phillip Goldson Highway, and executed a search. The search resulted in the discovery of one 16 gauge shotgun along with five 16 gauge cartridges and one expended cartridge.

As a result, Davis and Meneses were arrested and charged. Davis said his life was threatened earlier this year when he was shot at and his house shot up and he had gotten the weapon for his protection.

But Davis did not get the gun the legal way; instead he found a gun whilst hunting and kept it inside his home. He insisted he is no trouble maker or a part of any gang and all he was trying to do was to survive and take care of his family.

It’s a lesson he claim he will learn from, and before leaving the courtroom he hugged his common law wife and told her to take care of herself and their children.

Three persons including two teenagers were arraigned on a charge of aggravated assault with a firearm upon Davis and are all out on Supreme Court bail.  .

Police say that their initial investigation has revealed that the incident shooting sparked from a misunderstanding Davis allegedly had with the group over a bicycle. A fourth suspect is being sought.
