Special Constable shoots himself while chasing escaped prisoner

belize-policeBy Dalila Ical: On New Year’s Eve a prisoner from the Orange Walk Police station made a run for it and a Special Constable shot himself in the leg while trying to capture him.

The incident played out early Thursday morning, December 31st around 6:15 when Special Constable and Prison Warden Leonardo Bol was cleaning the cell block, along with other officers.

While the men worked, a prisoner, Fredrick Rhaburn from San Antonio, Corozal slipped passed the officers, jumped the cell block fence and ran away.

Bol attempted to catch up with him but while he attempted to take his police issued pistol it accidentally went off injuring Bol to the left leg. Bol has since been admitted to the Northern Regional Hospital and is in a stable condition.

Rhaburn, he was later captured and has been charged for the escape.
