Southern fishermen consultations to begin this month

Fisheries department logoBy Chrisbert Garcia: A press release issued by the Fisheries Department this morning, served to notify fishermen who use the South Water Caye Marine Reserve and Turneffe Atoll Marine Reserve, of community consultation dates to discuss the re-adjustment, possible expansion and creation of zones.

These consultations already took place in Northern fishing communities under the Marine Conservation and Climate Adaptation Project and the dates for Southern communities are as follows:

Dangriga on January 12 at the Helpage Centre (9:00a.m.), Hopkins on January 13 at Sandy Beach (6:00 a.m.), Placencia on January 14 at the village’s Community Center (6:00 a.m.) and Seine Bight/Riversdale on January 15 at the Seine Bight Multi-Purpose Center (9:00 a.m.).

All fishermen of those areas are invited to attend these consultations funded by the World Bank Group.
