By Dalila Ical: Belizeans are advised to get their sweaters and warm pants out this weekend as the cold temperatures return.
Forecaster at the Belize Meteorological Service, Ronald Gordon, says temperatures will start to fall Friday night through to Saturday morning. The temperatures are expected to drop to 64 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 58 degrees Fahrenheit inland and 52 degrees Fahrenheit in the Mountain Pine Ridge area.
It gets a bit colder a few hours later on Saturday night into Sunday with 62 degrees Fahrenheit along the coast, 54 degrees inland and somewhere in the upper 40s in the Mountain Pine Ridge. Strong winds are also expected over the sea Friday night into Saturday and the public is asked to exercise caution.
People are asked to be prepared, especially at night. Temperatures are expected to warm up on Monday through the rest of the week but it is still expected to be a relatively cool week.
Although it will be a bit colder than most of us are used to, it is not a record breaking low. Temperatures shot down to about 39 Fahrenheit in Punta Gorda in the 80s, Gordon said.
Belizeans can expect more cold days as the weather starts to warm up in February.
Meanwhile, our neighbors in Yucatan, Mexico, may be weathering cold as low 42 degrees Fahrenheit on Sunday, while residents in Campeche and Quintana Roo may be feeling cold temperatures as low as 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
