By Aaron Humes: A pair of Belize City men are in the hospital recovering from injuries sustained when a gunman opened fire on them last night in the Lake Independence area of Belize City. The shooting occurred sometime before 7 pm when a lone gunman opened fire on a group of men who were hanging out at the corner of Marigold Lane and Jasmine Street.
26-year-old Benua Andrews of Belize City was shot twice to the chest and 26-year-old Tyron Myers also of a Belize City address was shot to the left knee, right thigh and left elbow.
Officer attached to the Criminal Investigation Branch at Precinct 2 based in Eastern Division South, Sergeant Roberto Novelo, says one person has been detained as part of their investigations but no motive has been determined so far.
And while police do not have a motive for last night’s shooting both men are recovering at the KHMH and listed as stable. Benua Andrews is no stranger to the law, in fact in January of 2015 there was an attempt made on his life when he was shot to the right side of the face only a stone’s throw away from his home on Fern Lane.
Sergeant Novelo also gave details regarding a shooting on East Canal between Dean And Prince Streets on Tuesday night but there is not much to report: no one has come forward to report the incident.
