altun haBy Aaron Humes: American tourist Brian Gooders has been flown out of Belize for further treatment but appears to be out of danger after an incident at the Altun Ha Mayan site on Thursday in the Belize District.

The 36-year-old had to be hospitalized after he lost balance and fell from one of the Mayan Temples at a height of 30 to 35 feet on Thursday afternoon. Among his injuries is a broken jaw and bleeding to the brain.

On Friday evening, manager for Chukka Valerie Woods explained that Gooders left the group he was with and did an unsanctioned climb on the A-1 temple, which is typically not one that tours are done on. He had previously said he would not participate in the scheduled tour but stay on the ground.

Gooders, who is from Iowa, arrived on board Cruise Ship Carnival Dream.
