By Aaron Humes: A visiting couple was robbed at gunpoint at the Tropical Education Center at Mile 29, George Price Highway, but due to timely intervention by a passing motorist, police were able to catch at least one suspect who now faces charges.
Senior Superintendent Edward Broaster, officer commanding Eastern Division Rural explained that the motorist, identified as Jorge Lopez, intervened and disabled one of the robbers, who is now in hospital.
The second robber escaped. A number of personal belongings were stolen from the couple, who had reportedly just arrived in Belize. Police expect to have a further update on Tuesday.
