Belize Territorial Volunteers (BTV) to Sarstoon again, despite warning from Ministry of Foreign Affairs

Posted: Thursday, February 25, 2016. 5:34 pm CST.

Aaron Humes: The Belize Territorial Volunteers have planned another trip to the Sarstoon River for this coming Saturday. The expedition is in commemoration of their trip to the Gracias a Dios border monument along the BTVSarstoon river last year. At that time, they were detained by Guatemalan military and hauled off to Livingston until the intervention of Belizean authorities.

Today, BTV Leader Wil Meheia told us that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has dissuaded them from going on the trip, but they still intend to go.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs CEO, Lawrence Sylvester says that they will put out a public advisory quote “Strongly dissuading Belizeans from participating in such an activity which is fraught with potential for conflict in the area.” End quote.
