Phase two of CGF opens with renewed commitment to sustainable growth

Posted: Tuesday, March 1, 2016. 10:55 am CST.

Aaron Humes: 12 Caribbean countries have endorsed a commitment to sustainable growth during the first day of the Caribbean Growth Forum, being held in Belize City.  CGF 01

Representing Belize at the Forum is Minister of State for Economic Development, Investment, Trade, Commerce and Petroleum Tracey Taegar-Panton; Prime Minister Dean Barrow is in Washington at the IDB Governors’ Meeting.

The Forum, launched in 2013, recommits to shaping national and regional reform in conjunction with the public and private sector.

Looking forward, Phase II of the Forum seeks to build on the achievements of the first phase in three areas: investment climate, skills and productivity, and logistics and connectivity.

Specifically, according to World Bank director Sophie Sirtaine, entrepreneurship, financial and industrial reform are especially needed.

The Forum is supported by the major multilateral institutions like the Caribbean Development Bank, Inter-American Development Bank and World Bank.
